Scientific biography of Professor N.E. Zhukovsky

The exposition tells about the life path of the great Russian scientist, Honored Professor of the Imperial Moscow University, professor of theoretical mechanics of the Imperial Moscow Technical School, corresponding member of the Imperial Academy of Sciences in the category of mathematical sciences, “the father of Russian aviation”.

 

The birth of January 5 (17), 1847 and the childhood years of N. E. Zhukovsky in the village of Orekhovo, Vladimir province. Family, studies at the IV Moscow Men’s Gymnasium and at the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of Moscow University. Pedagogical and scientific activity as a mechanical scientist with a wide range of scientific interests, participation in various scientific and technical societies of Russia. Work in a new branch of science: aeronautics and flight theory, the discovery of the lifting force law, the creation of the foundations of aerodynamics as a science and the organization of educational aviation institutions: courses on aviation theory for pilots and the Aviation Technical School (now the Zhukovsky and Gagarin Air Force Academy), whose classes were held in the premises of this building.
